Housing
http://hrl.uncg.edu/

Q. How does my student apply to live on campus at UNCG?
A. New students may apply for the academic year beginning in fall 2007 on February 15, 2007. Students apply online at http://hrl.uncg.edu/. To successfully apply for housing you must fulfill the following required steps:
  1. Be admitted to UNCG for the academic period requested.
  2. Complete the online application (available at http://hrl.uncg.edu beginning February 15) before May 1, 2007.
  3. Send a $150 non-refundable pre-payment made out to “UNCG” to the Office of Housing & Residence Life within 10 days of completion of the online application. Failure to send the $150 prepayment within 10 days will result in the cancellation of the housing application.
  4. Newly admitted first-time UNCG students must confirm with the Admissions Office their intent to attend UNCG.
  5. Maintain your registered student status by paying all University tuition and fees by the designated deadlines. Non-registered students will lose their housing assignments.
Q. Why should my student consider living on campus?
A. Students who live on campus have greater opportunities to become involved not only in student organizations across campus, but with their residence hall and the people living with them. There is evidence to suggest that students living on campus have higher academic achievement, stay in school until graduation at higher rates, and are generally more satisfied with their college experience.
Q. Are new students guaranteed housing?
A. All new students who successfully apply for housing prior to May 1, 2007 are guaranteed housing. This could include a temporary assignment in a common area space for a short period, depending on demand and the date of your housing application. Students who apply after May 1, 2007 may receive housing depending on availability.
Q. How are students assigned to residence hall rooms?
A. Students are assigned to rooms based on their original housing application date. Therefore it is to your student’s advantage to apply as early as possible.
Q. How can I check my student’s housing status?
A. To learn how to check on your student’s housing status, go to: http://hrl.uncg.edu/room-assign/genie_help.html.
Q. Can my student designate a roommate choice?
A. Yes. Although UNCG cannot guarantee that two roommates who request each other will be roomed together, the Office of Housing & Residence Life does their best to honor such requests. To designate a preferred roommate in the online housing application, your student will need to know that person’s full name and his/her home address. To guarantee that they are assigned the same room, both students will have to meet the following additional requirements: 1. Both students must have active housing applications dated prior to May 1, 2007. 2. Both students must agree to being placed in the same room, regardless of building preference.
Q. How much does it cost to live on campus?
A. In 2006-2007, a standard double room cost $3233 for the August–May academic period. In addition, students living on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. Currently, meal plans for new students range from $2475 to $2675 per academic year. Therefore, the total cost for living on campus per academic year is approximately $5708–$5908.
